Storti Quality Services on the Ground as Orange & Rockland Expands Its Community Safety Program.

Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R) recently announced a major expansion of its Natural Gas Detector (NGD) Program. Storti Quality Services is honored to serve as the lead installation contractor.

After a successful pilot program that installed over 16,000 natural gas detectors across O&R's service area from 2018 to 2024, O&R will deploy an additional 30,000 units between 2025 and 2027. This significant investment in community safety will be supported by Storti Quality Services throughout the installation process.

Detectors are installed where the gas service pipe enters a customer’s home or building. If elevated natural gas levels are detected, the device sounds an audible alarm and sends an alert to O&R’s gas emergency response center, which dispatches crews to investigate. This proactive safety measure benefits both customers and the wider community.

Eligible customers will receive advance notice, typically by letter or postcard, and can schedule a convenient installation appointment. Installations are free of charge, take less than one hour, and do not require shutting off gas service.

Storti Quality Services President Joel Hutwelker put it simply: "Storti Quality Services is proud to be supporting Orange & Rockland in the groundbreaking NGD Program. As local residents ourselves, our project team is committed to safety and peace of mind for the community."

This commitment reflects Storti’s longstanding values of quality workmanship, community focus, and reliable field execution that utilities rely on for large-scale programs.
